Knute Buehler, MD is an orthopedic surgeon in Bend, who was born and raised in Roseburg, Oregon where he attended public schools. He completed his medical training at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

Dr. Buehler is a proven innovator and problem solver. He is the author of more than a dozen published scientific research papers and is considered one of the premier surgeon developers in the world of computer assisted knee replacement. He travels frequently teaching these techniques to surgeons both domestically and internationally, especially China and India. Dr. Buehler is a leading consultant for Stryker Corporation, a Fortune 500 company, designing artificial joints, developing software and assisting with business development. He has U.S. and European patents for inventions that have worldwide sales and distribution. Dr. Buehler is on the board of directors of St. Charles Health System. He has been instrumental as chairman of the strategy committee in creating an innovative integrated health system that served as an important model for the recent healthcare reform in Oregon. He also assisted in developing a new method of continuous performance auditing for the health system, drastically improving accountability. Dr. Buehler is past President of the Oregon Association of Orthopedic Surgeons, served on the advisory board of OSU-Cascades Campus, and is on the board of directors of the Ford Family Foundation , one of the largest charitable organizations in the state.

Before his career in medicine, Dr. Buehler attended Oregon State University where he played varsity baseball and was the first graduate ever to be awarded a Rhodes scholarship. He graduated from Oxford University in England with a Master’s degree in politics and economics. He has been active in national and statewide politics. He was involved in the 1992 Perot presidential campaign. He was one of the primary authors of the 1994 Oregon ballot measure that reformed the state’s campaign finance laws and was instrumental in qualifying an open primary ballot measure in the 2008 Oregon general election.

Dr. Buehler is married to Patricia Buehler, MD, who is an eye surgeon in Bend. They have two children.
